The Jean Machine: How To Style A Jean Jacket

Jean jackets have been my latest obsession, there great because they not only look stylish but also come in different washes and fits to look good on anyone. Over the last couple weeks I have worn them a lot as it has become a bit chillier at night and at work. I realized that it can be difficult when styling a jean jacket because the possibilities can not only be overwhelming but also can leave you frustrated because you don’t know what goes with a jean jacket.

So I decided to give some inspirations on how to style a jean jacket not only for you but for kids as well to prove that jean jackets look good on everyone. With the help from my 10 year old sister modelling and taking photos of me, I hope you enjoy. (stay tuned for my sisters outfits next week!)

In and Out of Work Look

Floral top

Shorts: Banana Republic      Top: Forever 21

Days can get busy so make sure you wear something can be practical where ever you go. It’s important while being in and out of work that you still look some what presentable but still functional. The shorts offer a comfortable but professional look so you don’t have to be  squirming in a skirt all day. The top is dainty and cute and adds some colour as it is still summer. Lastly, the dark was jean jacket adds the option to stay warm as your in and out of air conditioning.

The jacket adds little pops of gold that clash nicely with the dark fabric and light shorts. Tip: it’s important that when wearing something business casual and using a jean jacket, to make it subtle and almost as if it can be optional. Often jean can look to casual, thats why I opted for a darker wash.

Casual Night Out Look

White jean collage 1

This is one of my favorites! The striped body con dress with the white jean jacket gives a dressy yet effortless look. I love the bag that was paired with simply for the pop of colour it gives, and of course comfortable shoes because no one needs their feet hurting after a long night.

Dress: H&M.       Jacket:Marc Jacobs          Bag: Heys

Chilly Night

This look is inspired by the jacket itself. The jacket is a Moto Jacket from Topshop and I wanted the outfit to reflect the jacket so I paired it with and olive green crop top (pick a colour that accents your skin)

Jacket: Topshop

The jacket fits big and the light wash clashes nicely with the green top. The shoulder fit of the jacket is similar to the ones in the 80’s which gives you that Moto/oversized appearance.

The back is retro which I love and believe it or not this jacket is a consignment store find. The rolled up sleeves look so cute and paired with the black pants below really seals in the whole look

Pants: Zara

Lastly, the shoes are the best, they add a girly vibe to the look and the shoes laser cut sides are my favourite part. It’s also really nice how there is a zipper at the back of the shoe so your not stuck undoing the laces. The best part of these shoes is that there is no heel and therefore you won’t sink into grass.

I hope you enjoyed this post and stay tuned for next week were I post my sisters looks with a jean jacket. My upcoming post is all about packing for a trip so be sure to follow my blog twitter and Instagram to stay up to date.

I hope you all have a great day and I hope to keep in touchsignature

Back To School: Things to Avoid Your Freshmen Year in Highschool

Grade 9 can be an exciting and fun year but it can also be stressful as there are tons of changes and new challenges. Since I have been there and done that, I thought I would share my wisdom on the subject of starting high school.

1. Don’t take up all the space in the hallway. Think of high school as an anarchy and as sad as it seems you are at the bottom of the totem pole. Grade 12’s get the center, then grade 11 (that is me) then grade 10’s and then there is you. Kids are bigger, louder and know there way around the school so stick the sides of the hallways. That’s is how you avoid getting caught in the whirlwind of a high school hallway.

2. Don’t sit at the very front of the class or the back. It’s best to sit in the middle that way you are kind of in the social section so that you can make friends easily but still stay focused.

3.Don’t stay quiet. You want to put yourself out there and try to make as much friends on the first day. If your a shy person then try to be talkative with the more outgoing people who start talking to you. Also make friends with both genders, it’s not grade 5 and everyone of the opposite gender has cooties. It’s good to make relationship’s with everyone.

4. Don’t be mean to your locker neighbor. Even if there older try to make a relationship with them. They can be very helpful when you need advice on classes, lost locker or navigating the school. If their in the same grade then you both can potentially help each other out.

5. Don’t sit alone at lunch. You want to try to sit with a person you met in your classes because they can introduce you to others.

6. Don’t avoid clubs and sports. if you are interested in doing something, DO IT! You will regret it if you don’t. Try out for everything because grade 9 is the time to figure out who you are and how can you do that if you don’t try things out.

7. Don’t ditch old friends from grade school. You have spent a long time with them and those relationships are still important. Although I only talk to 4 out of the 23 people I went to school with, I love being able to act more like a kid with them because they remember me during all my awkward stages, that is a special bond. Also, even though you may not talk to the rest of your class, it’s still nice to have people in the class you know so don’t be a jerk.

8. Don’t go to the first party. This is more of a tale of caution. The ugly truth is the first party is a breeding ground for older students, especially grade 10’s to hook up with grade 9’s. A lot of bad can happen here including a social shake up. It’s fun to party, don’t get me wrong but I would wait about 3 weeks till attending one, usually the obsession dies down by then.

9. Don’t act that your top dog. News flash! Your not! This will only put a target on you with not only your own grade but older students. An add on to this is that if you take the bus home 9 times out of 10 there is a bus anarchy as well so don’t get to comfortable in the seat you chose because chances are it belongs to someone else. Try making friends while you wait for the bus because it can take the pain out of riding to and from school.

10. Don’t be naïve. It’s high school and no one is babying you. There is going to be drug, alcohol and people having sex but it is up to you whether you want to be apart of it. Ask around and figure out were a lot of the people doing drugs are and try to avoid them. The key here is not the judge, there all different types of people in high school and that is what makes it so great. Even if someone participates in something you don’t like, doesn’t mean they are a bad person, still give them a chance and drop the hint that your not into that stuff. Nobody likes someone who passes judgment so keep and open mind and have fun.

Grade 9 is so fun and exciting so be yourself and enjoy it! I hope this was helpful and please let me know if you want more back to school tips and study ideas.

The Elephant: What The Symbol Did For Me and What It Can Do For You

My love for the elephant started from a young age when I went to Montessori school and the teacher (who I love dearly and has taught me everything I know) told me about elephants being killed for their tusks. You might be thinking “why is the teacher telling a 5 year old such a horrible thing?” but without her I wouldn’t be as aware of the world as I am today, I am like this because she told us the truth about culture, war, animals and different religions (but most importantly have respect for them and for the world). I was horrified by this discovery, so I asked “why would they kill such a beautiful, strong and smart animal?” Continue reading

5 Tips To Stay Positive When The Job Hunt Seems Never-Ending

It wasn’t that long ago that I was experiencing the job hunt struggles  and I know how difficult it can be to pick yourself up after not getting a job, not finding one or like me getting let go. Finding a job is difficult but don’t let that stop you from achieving where you want to be. You may feel as though you have all this knowledge and education to successfully do the job but it never turns out in your favour.

However, as difficult as it might seem, keeping a positive attitude throughout your job search can truly make all the difference in the entire process. Seems impossible? Here are five tips to help you find the bright side during, what can be, a challenging job search.

1. Find Energy

Looking for a job seems never ending and it is easy to feel powerless so don’t focus on all the things you can’t control, focus on all the things you can.

It’s simple! Channel your energy into being the best applicant you can possibly be: Polish your resume; take a course to refine a skill that could benefit you; do anything you can to better position yourself against your competition. You may not be able to control the entire process, but you should at least do your best with what is well within your grasp.

2. Flip Your Strategy

The job hunting world is no longer a personal one, everything is done online and often times you may feel a disconnect between you and your future employer.

If you’re beginning to feel frustrated and exhausted with your search, try switching up how you’re doing things. Walk away from the computer screen and set up an informational interview. Enter the store, even if you know they take resumes online, you are more memorable that way and you might even get to see the manager in passing. Its bad to continue to do the same thing over and over again (particularly if it doesn’t seem to be working) is a surefire way to grow even more frustrated and discouraged.

3. Don’t Dwell

You may become down in the dumps because your efforts feel to you as failed. And that can be more than enough to make you feel gloomy and unmotivated. Suddenly, evenings spent being a couch potato sound like all you’re physically capable of after a long day of fruitless job searching.

However, camping out inside your home will only send your spirits into even more of a downward spiral. So keep yourself busy, spend time with friends or take up a hobby. Establish a routine that gets you out of the house each and every day. Believe me, turning into a job search hermit will only make your situation seem negative.

4. Get Out There!

Looking for a solution that will get you out of the house and also give your professional reputation a boost? Find opportunities to volunteer!

I got my job from extensive volunteer work with people, even though it seems irrelevant to your future job, having team work and people experience is so important to all employers. It can help you learn and refine some new or old skills. When you volunteer, you can try your hand at things you wouldn’t necessarily be willing to attempt in a traditional work environment. It also gives you the opportunity to meet new people who can help you land or decide on exactly the type of job or person you want to be in the market.

5. Don’t Be Picky

Instead of looking at your long (never-ending it may seem!) job hunt as a hindrance, think of it as your opportunity to discover different career paths and identify what you really want to do. Make sure to keep an open mind when job hunting. You are not going to find the perfect life long job out of the gate, it’s going to take a few swings.

See if you can find some different job shadowing opportunities or unpaid work to help you gain some experience, test drive different careers, and beef up your resume. Remember, taking the time to explore your options is never a bad thing.

There’s no denying that a long job hunt can be discouraging and disheartening. However, focusing on the negatives will only add fuel to your pessimistic fire! As cliché as it might sound, staying positive is absolutely crucial.

I know, it’s easier said than done. But, put these tips into play and you’re sure to feel a little bit better about your job search. Trust me, no matter what it may feel like, your job hunt won’t last forever.

Have you dealt with a long job search before? How did you stay positive?

Journal # 9: The Six Year Age Gap

For those of you who don’t know, my little sister and I are 6 years apart (nobody in between, just the 2 of us) As much as sometimes I wish we were closer together in age, I am often truly satisfied with the years we have apart. She makes me feel like a kid and I get to help her grow up, she doesn’t steal my clothes or makeup, and she doesn’t embarrass me at school simply because she is not at my school. The age gap has helped me develop a more marital instinct and has taught her that someone is always there to listen to you even if you don’t wanna tell mom.

We carry each others secrets like the time we broke the small decretive statue in out house or when she cheated on her social studies test because her notes just happen to be on the corner of the desk. Most importantly as much as sometimes we want there to be, there is no competition. We don’t have the same hobbies, never played the same sports, and she is too young to be in realistic competition in grades. Although I know she mumbles in frustration “why is Donatella so smart? Look at me I am Donatella and I get 90’s” (yes i do get 90’s). I always tell her your nine and I am sixteen even if you wanted to be good at english, you can’t be because you don’t know enough yet, and that’s okay, it doesn’t make you stupid.

Over the last year though she has definitely kicked my ass in math (sixteen year old me and 9 year old me). She flew right past me with times tables, fractions, area and perimeter and at that point in my life I couldn’t do that on paper let alone in my head. So every one in a while I always say to her “wow your way better at math then I am, your pronunciation in french is better than mine and look at that you are an amazing cook (by the way she loves cooking and I hate it….I burnt popcorn at fifteen and she can make a grilled cheese sandwich at eight).

But sometimes it has it’s downsides, there are moments in our relationship where it’s like each other doesn’t exist cause we are so busy or we become annoyed with each others immaturity (ie; hers) and bossiness (ie; mine). We forget each others age, she expects me to play with her all the time and I expect her to not leave a disaster every where she goes. Me being sick I am able to spend more time with her and we do more together like spend an hour together each morning, pull pranks on each other and read together at night.

Some say that after 5 years of not having a sibling your and only child, but I disagree with that. My sister and I are able to grow as separate people without fighting for attention or trying to one up each others successes all the time, she doesn’t feel like she has to do exactly what I do or that we are enemies. She looks up to me and in a way I look up to her where as when siblings are closer together they can fight over who’s stronger, better, smarter and it takes them a while to have respect for each other (i have cousins who are close together…..I have noticed the difference). In order for our relationship to be strong we have develop ourselves and then we develop together.

So if you are worried about having kids far apart I hope this eases the concern. Plus you have your own personal babysitter, chef , hairdresser, tutor….it’s like having a second mom or dad. Next time if you meet someone with siblings far apart, don’t feel bad for them because in my opinion it is the best sibling dynamic out there.

Blog Update// New Look + New Schedule

This is long over due but a lot has changed in my blog and I really like it!

one. The name! it is no longer Shamelessly Addicted To Caffeine (although the addiction has not wavered) I have changed it to Ciao Donatella. Every time someone is talking to me on the phone or across the street I always end the conversation with Ciao, it’s just something I have always done. My mom does it, my grandparents do it and almost all my family members do it. I thought is was time for a change and that I was ready to take my blogging to the next level and with that comes a new name.

two. A new look. I have been wanting to find a look that I was going to love for a while but it can be difficult. I think I found it! at least one that will last me a year, I am loving the static page even though I was warned by every blogging website out there not to do it. Sometimes you gotta break the rules. This new look showcases my content and some photos at the same time. Now, I am always up for a change but this seems pretty permanent

three. Better photo’s. I have DSLR camera but I lost the charger so I finally got it charged up and hopefully it will last me a while until I have to charge it again, The charger is like $75.00 and I rather not fork out that money at this money, maybe ebay will be helpful. I hope you all like the beautiful photo’s that will be coming at you like this one for this post, check out my about page and contact or my latest post.

four. New schedule. I will now be posting 3 times a week (Monday, Thursday, Saturday) and as always saturday will most likely be my coffee talks!

As my blog family is growing so will my blog and I hope I can count on you to grow with me.

Monthly Makeup Bag// May

Over the course of 2 months I wanted to start a series about the makeup, skincare or beauty tools I have been loving over the course of the month. So I decided to call it the Monthly Makeup Bag (if you have a better name I would love to hear it). So this post will go out at the end of every month and it may or may not have a theme. This months theme is: Face

In this photo: UD in oil-contol

With hot weather comes sweat and with sweat comes greasy and patchy makeup. The Urban Decay De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray keeps my makeup on my face all day and it still looks fresh and pore-less by the end of the day. The great thing about this spray is that it dry’s fast and are available for different skin types and purposes. It ranges from $17.00(1 0z)-$38.oo(4 oz).

A BB cream is a great alternative for foundation that I have been loving, it gives my skin room to breath without going out with nothing on. It’s the perfect your skin but better. I have always used Physicains Fomula Super BB All-in-1 Beauty Balm Cream, I have the colour Light/Medium but there is a light and medium/deep option. Just be careful when picking your shade, if you usually consider yourself lighter olive the light to medium here will be perfect but if you are lighter or darker than that go up one shade or down.

This is probably my favourite primer ever! especially for the summer. It is the bareMinerals Prime Time brightening primer.  This is not the standard size bottle, it’s a travel one because I ran out of the big one but this guy retails for $28.00 (1 oz). This keeps my T-zone oil free and giving me that “glow from within” look that is really big this season!

This concealer feels like there is nothing on my face, although it does crease if not set and is not full coverage by any means. It is great to wear on a natural day to brighten up your eyes and highlight the high points of your face. It is the Covergirl Ready, Set Gorgeous Concealer  I have it in light because use it as a brightener. Other shades are fair, light/medium, medium, medium/deep, and deep. I got mine for $5.00.

I have had this blush forever and I cried a little when I realized it was discontinued but it technically is not. Rimmel re-packaged and named a blush that is almost exactly alike just a tad bit less shimmery. This is Rimmel London 101 Pink Sugar/ Pink Rose . It gives a natural pink to a cheek and what was stunning is that is looks beautiful on all skin tones… I have seen it 😉

That’s all! I hope you all enjoyed this post and it was so fun to photograph. Also I think you bookworms out there will love my next post!

Why You Should Meditate + Visuale

I did a post about why you should meditate a while ago and i decided to re vamp it and put in a visual format because you all seem to like these and I love how fun they are to make. This is a new health series I will be starting all about meditation and I will be putting it out every month.

Meditation is starting to become a more common thing in the world and my life. Meditation is a practice where an individual trains the mind or induces a mode of consciousness, either to realize some benefit or for the mind to simply acknowledge its content without becoming identified with that content, or as an end in itself.
